Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) is a structured therapeutic intervention specifically designed to address treatment needs of clients, utilized by therapists trained in the use of animals in therapy settings.  AAT is considered experiential therapy, which means “learning through doing.” Through structured activities with an animal, the client experiences an interaction with the animal, reflects on it, analyzes it, then generalizes/integrates the lesson into their own lives.
